Biography

Maria Isabel Vasquez is a fine art photographer working in self-portraiture. Born in Peru, she spent over a decade as a casino croupier in Peru, the United States and on international cruise lines before turning to photography full-time. She studied film photography at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and later moved to digital work.

Following a divorce and the death of her father in 2013, she turned the camera on herself. Self-portraiture became both method and subject: she is photographer and muse, constructing images that move between reality and fantasy to explore the female form, sensuality and identity.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Carrousel du Louvre Art Fair in Paris, The Body Language Exhibition in Venice, Swiss Art Expo in Zurich, Es Arte Gallery in Marbella, and Parallax and Flux in London. She was Featured Artist at West Wharf Gallery for The Female Gaze and at Blackwater Gallery, Cardiff Bay. Her photography appears in Giorgio Bonomi's Il Corpo Solitario: The Self-Timer in Contemporary Photography, Volumes III and IV.

She has published three books: Love Affair and Love Affair in Black and White (2023), and Muses Den (2025), made in collaboration with Retsin's Lucifernum, Brugge.

Based in the United Kingdom and working internationally with viewing in London and internationally by appointment.
