Maria Vasquez is a contemporary Self-portrait artist. Born in Peru in 1973 & moved to the United Kingdom in 2005 from America after having lived there for 11 years. She took Photography in 2004 at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
"I enjoyed learning Film Photography & developing my own images. I found Spending hours in The Dark Room quite fascinating, exciting and relaxing at the same time. I took Digital Photography few years later and after few projects on Self Portraiture and finding inspiration from few female artists such as Cindy Sherman and Frida Kahlo among others; I found myself more connected with myself and able to produce what I wanted to produce or express. Self Portraiture is my key to freedom. My camera, my tripod, any source of light and myself, We are practically One" quotes Maria.
Maria's work has been exposed at The Parallax Art Exhibition in Chelsea/London on October 2014 and also exhibited at The Giles Gallery in Pontyclun, Wales on January 2015.
Her work has been represented online by Fine Art Galleries such as 5 Pieces Gallery based Switzerland, Saatchi Art and Fine Art America in the last few years.
Some of her work is being exhibited and for sale at Es Arte Gallery in Marbella, Spain.
Maria was part of The Body Language Exhibition in Venice during the Carnival in 2019. She has also been virtually present with her work during the Pandemic in 2020 at The Swiss Art Expo in Zurich in August 2020.
Being Cardiff city her base She has had representation with local Galleries.
